Oh, goody goody gumdrops! It’s winter – the perfect time to make a beauty-ful (or handsome) snow buddy! I just love turning all those sparkly snowflakes into snow buddies, and if you follow these easy tips, you can build your own snowman (or woman) in no time!
1. Choose the right “ingredients” – If the snow is too powdery, it won’t stick together (it will feel more like cold, white sand). Test it out by cupping a handful together. If it packs nicely and sticks without breaking up, you’re ready to start building your snow buddy! If not, fill an old spray bottle with water and spray the snow to help give it sticking power.
2. Get rollin’ – The perfect snow buddy requires three snowballs – big, bigger and biggest! Sometimes it’s easier to make the smallest one first. Aim for a basketball-size top snowball, then make the other two snowballs. Carefully stack the medium-size snowball on top of the largest one, and give it a little back-and-forth wiggle to help it stay in place. Add the third snowball to the top, then add a little extra snow between the layers to help them really stick in place. Now, you’re ready to start decorating (this is my favorite part)!
3. Make ‘em dazzle! – Now comes the fun – giving your snow buddy a personality of their own! Create your snow buddy’s face with fruits and veggies or old craft supplies (like silky ribbons and glittery buttons). You can use tinsel or pine tree leaves for hair. Look for pretty objects around the house that your snow buddy can “borrow” – like a fancy hat, cozy scarf, plaid bowtie or chic sunglasses. Add tree branches as arms and place sparkly mittens on the ends. Then it’s time for finishing touches — think ornament earrings, a pretty wrapped box, a magic wand, a warm fluffy cape — the possibilities are endless!
When you’re all done, make sure you ask mom or dad to take a picture of you and your new snow buddy so you can remember him or her long after winter is over.
And you know I’d love to hear from you! Do you like building snow people? Do you dress them up? Tell me all about it in the comments below!
Happy building!
Love your friend,
Kaley
