Hey, friend! What’s happening? It’s your old pal Cornelius here! How’s your school year going so far? One thing I love about school is meeting new friends…friends just like you! It’s so much fun learning about people and discovering what you have in common with them.
Starting a conversation is a great way to begin a new friendship. You can just smile and say “Hi!” or you share something interesting about yourself and then ask a few questions to get to know the other person better. Just make sure that you really pay attention to what they say because it’s very important information!
Speaking of important information, did you know that lunch is my FA-VOR-ITE time of the day? As soon as the lunch bell rings I make a mad dash to my locker to whip out my lunch box and see what tasty treats are stashed inside. It feels like Christmas morning! Note to self: Don’t forget to clean out your backpack at the end of this school year. The half-eaten granola bar I found stashed in mine had so much fuzzy mold growing on it, I thought it was a caterpillar!
What’s your favorite class or time of day?
At our school – Stem Elementary – recess (my second favorite time of day) comes right before lunch, so we REALLY work up an appetite! During nice weather, we get to run and climb on outdoor playground equipment. On rainy days, we have recess in our gym – but I don’t mind! We break out the soccer balls, basketballs and footballs and have a totally terrific time playing our favorite sports – or using our imaginations to make up new games.
What’s your favorite thing to do during recess?
Yammy Grammy always packs me a super-yummy and super-healthy lunch so that I can stay powered up throughout the school day because there’s nothing worse than a rumbling tummy and a sleepy brain during class! Crunchy carrot sticks, apple slices or a handful of chickpea crispies make the BEST lunchbox goodies and combat even the worst case of the hungries.
What’s your favorite snack to take to school?
Oh and one last thing…I borrowed a new joke book from the school library yesterday! Want to hear a HILARIOUS riddle? How do you catch a unique rabbit? “You neek” up on it!
HAHAHAHA! Joke books are the best!
What kind of books do you like to read?
I’d love to know (since YOU are my friend!), so share your answers in the comments below and I’ll be sure to read them all!
You can also try this with someone new at your school — ask them one of these (or any) questions, share my joke, tell them something cool about yourself or just smile and say “Hi!” — because being a friend is the best way to make a friend!
